ADOPTION

We are very happy if a dog of our foundation will get a new home. Before we proceed to the adoption we want to mention a couple of points of interest to you. Also we will visit the new home of the dog before the adoption takes place in order to see the animal’s new home.

All dogs coming here from the shelters are fully vaccinated, have a chip, and are in possession of an official animal passport. Moreover a blood analysis takes place to check if the dog is entirely healthy.

Points of interest

·         Have you discussed everything with everyone in the family and does everybody agree with the decision

·         Many of the older dogs already got used to living in a house and are often calmer than young dogs. On the other hand you should realize that an older dog can cause higher costs (veterinary).

·         These costs usually cannot be insured at an animal cost insurance from a certain age. Regularly there will be animals to be adopted needing medication. Of course this is mentioned along with the information about the animals. These costs will be at your expense if you proceed to adoption.

·         Concerning animals with a physical restriction you should consider well what this means for your life, your holidays, your time, your family etc. These animals will generally, according to the nature of the restriction, need more intensive care.

We do not want to appear as teachers mentioning these points of interest, we just want to make sure that everyone reflects very well. This way we want to prevent problems for the families but certainly also for the animals, the last we want would be that they would have to leave again after finally having found their luck! This is what we definitely want to avoid. YOU must be convinced of your choice and so we must be. The older dogs and dogs with a physical restriction are generally the category people do not choose for that easily.

Expenses

The expenses to help these animals in the Netherlands (adoption) are: For animals with a physical problem or animals aged 7 years and older €  170. This amount is calculated as follows:

€ 70 of travel expenses, € 80 veterinary costs and € 20 for the foundation. These extra costs are used as a reserve for veterinary costs of dogs in our foster homes.

For healthy animals the amount is € 200. This amount consists of € 70 travel expenses, € 80 veterinary costs, € 20 for the foundation (as explained above) and € 30  contribution for castrations and sterilizations. The costs are much higher than € 30 of course but to avoid extremely high contributions for the families we try to pay some of the expenses another way (gifts, collecting and selling things,…).

The veterinary expenses include: chip, passport, rabies and a blood test (analysis) regarding the health of the animal and monitoring of sicknesses. For the “health” of our foundation it would be good to receive these expenses from the adopting families but we do understand that if an animal needs medication or intense veterinary care that might not always be possible.

In special cased it will be possible to talk about the contribution, but we never negotiate about an animal!

We want to inform you that each penny is exclusively spent on the animals; no expenses of our foundation is being paid by gifts (such as travel expenses, telephone, material, etc.). These we pay entirely of our own money. At the end of a year we will publish an annual report on our Internet site.

We will summarize the contributions for our animals in the following survey:

* animals with a (physical) problem € 170, -

* animals aged 7 years or above € 170, -

* animals without health problems € 200, -

* animals not yet castrated or spayed € 170, -

Contract

If you decide to adopt an animal, you will have to sign our adoption contract. This way we make sure to be able to guarantee and follow their well-being as much as possible.

Of course, the animal will be yours, but in the contract the animal will remain the foundation’s. This in order to make sure that you will have to contact us if there are problems, that the animal has to be returned to La Vida if you cannot continue taking care of it etc.

If you want to read our contract, please read the Dutch version here. If you need a translation to English, please contact us at info@dierensteunlavida.nl
